Planes Collide At Indonesian Airport | Secret Flying

Two planes collided at Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma airport forcing its temporary closure.

A Batik Air Boeing-737 carrying 56 people, had been cleared for take-off when its wing struck a TransNusa aircraft that was being towed. Soon after the collision, images were posted online showing severe damage to the wing of the Batik Air jet.

Halim Perdanakusuma airport which handles both military and commercial flights was temporarily closed following the accident.

Andy Saladin, a spokesman for Lion Air Group, said that “All the passengers and crew are safe, and will be flown using a replacement aircraft.”

Indonesia has a dreadful air safety record amid a boom in air travel, particularly with low-cost carriers. In 2013, a Lion Air plane skidded off a runway in Sulawesi after crashing into a cow. That same year, another Lion Air plane ended in the sea after landing short of the runway at Denpasar International Airport. Many passengers were hospitalised.

In 2014, an Indonesia AirAsia flight crashed into the Java Sea during bad weather, killing all 155 passengers and seven crew on board.
