AirAsia X gets FAA clearance for US flights | Secret Flying

AirAsia X receives clearance to launch low-cost flights between Asia and the USA.

AirAsia X announced plans to fly to the US, as they obtained clearance from the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) to operate services to destinations within the US. This will be the first time a low-cost carrier will connect the USA with Asia.

The long-haul airline is considering flights to several U.S. states, including Hawaii. However, AirAsia X has not gone into detail as to when exactly it will arrive in the US and which cities it will serve.

Kamarudin Meranun, Group Chief Executive Officer, said in a statement: “Our expansion up until now has concentrated on Asia, Australasia and the Middle East, and we are excited about our first foray into an entirely new market as we look beyond Asia Pacific.”

Analysts have warned that it may not necessarily be a succcess. AirAsia once flew to London and Paris, but these routes were discontinued in 2012 due to high fuel costs and weak demand. The airline said the high taxes in Europe had made it difficult to offer low fares.
