UK ministers have announced that blue passports will be issued to British citizens after Brexit.
The British passport will revert back to blue after the UK leaves the European Union.
The “iconic” blue passports were first issued in 1921, before the UK voluntarily adopted the burgundy common passport criteria in the 1980s.
That change has long been seen as a symbol of the UK ceding sovereignty to the 28-member bloc.
Nigel Farrage, a prominent supporter of the successful campaign to leave the EU, tweeted to his followers “Happy Brexmas!” following the news.

Others on the social media platform were more concerned with the “lies” told by the Leave campaign.
Imagine having believed voting for #brexit would mean our NHS was going to get an extra £350m per week, only to find out it actually meant you’d get a #BluePassport instead…almost like asking for a Porsche for xmas and ending up with a twig

The Home Office have said that the new passport will be “one of the most secure travel documents in the world, with a raft of new and updated security features and technologies to protect against fraud and forgery.”
The newly coloured passports will be phased in after the UK leaves the EU on 29th March 2019.
