The Civil Aviation Authority says it is taking action to get 110,000 people back to the UK after Monarch Airlines ceases trading.

 

Monarch Airlines ceased trading on Monday morning, leaving approximately 100,000 British tourists stranded abroad.

 

The accountants KPMG announced at 4am that the airline had been placed into administration and all further flights from the UK are cancelled and would not be rescheduled.

 

After 49 years of flying passengers to Europe and beyond, Monarch’s collapse has cost the jobs of 2,750 staff.

 

 

At least 300,000 future bookings worth £60 million and involving up to 750,000 customers have also been axed.

 

Monarch Airlines has blamed terror attacks in Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia as the “root causes” of its failure.
