A man wearing a “Make America Great Again” cap was removed from a United Airlines flight after a political altercation in Shanghai, China.

A disruptive passenger on a United Airlines flight from Shanghai was asked to get off the plane after causing a scene on board, according to reports.

United Airlines flight 87, destined for Newark was delayed in Shanghai before making an unscheduled stop in San Francisco to get a new crew. According to Flight Aware the plane arrived at Newark after an eight hour delay.

The video on social media shows a man in a red “Make America Great Again” cap, insisting that he is entitled to a seat.

In a Facebook post, passenger Clark Gredoña said the man claimed that because “he couldn’t get an upgrade, he’s entitled to all three seats next to him even though they’re assigned to somebody else.”

Mr Gredoña’s post goes on to say: “He finally relents, but not before berating some female passengers and crew, calling one passenger “Hillary” and “lesbian”.

United Airlines spokesman Jonathan Guerin said the passenger “refused to comply with crew member instructions and became increasingly disruptive when asked to deplane the aircraft”. After local law enforcement were called to the scene, the passenger “eventually left the aircraft of his own accord”.

After having disembarked from the plane, passengers inside the airport terminal can be heard in the video chanting “Lock him up.”

United Airlines thanked its customers for their patience and its staff for their professionalism.
