VIDEO: United Airlines engine disintegrates over Pacific Ocean | Secret Flying

A United Airlines flight landed safely at Honolulu International Airport on Tuesday afternoon after the casing blew off one of the engines.

A United Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing after one of its engines began to fall apart over the Pacific Ocean.

United Airlines Flight 1175 experienced problems approximately 35 minutes before it was scheduled to land in Hawaii.

Passengers on board the Boeing 777 heard a loud bang and felt the plane shake violently.

Those seated on the right side of the aircraft could see pieces of metal flying outside.

Video footage from inside the cabin show passengers being asked to “brace!” as the plane is forced into an emergency landing.

Erik Haddad, a Google engineer on board the flight, remained calm throughout the incident, uploading a series of photos to Twitter.

A statement from United Airlines said: “United flight 1175 traveling to Honolulu from San Francisco landed safely after the pilots called for an emergency landing because of a loss of the engine cowling (the covering of the engine.”

“Our pilots followed all necessary protocols to safely land the aircraft. The aircraft taxied to the gate and passengers deplaned normally.”

The cause of the problem is not yet known.
