Indian customs caught 29 people hiding gold in their rectums on two flights from Colombo, Sri Lanka to Madurai, India.

On Sunday, Indian customs at Madurai international airport caught 29 people hiding gold in their rectums on only two flights.

A total of 37 smugglers were discovered by authorities. 8 of them hid the gold in their hand-luggage or children’s pushchairs, whilst the other 29 smugglers opted for rectal concealment.

India’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) said the nuggets, which totaled over 10kg (22lb), were confiscated by authorities.

The smugglers were permitted to walk free as no individual was carrying enough to meet the criminal threshold.
