A female Jet Airways flight attendant and another man have been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle $500,000 cash out of India.

An Indian flight attendant has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle nearly $500,000 cash out of the country.

Devshi Kulshreshtha, 25, was intercepted by DRI officials when she was on a flight to Hong Kong on Monday.

Video footage posted online shows the flight attendant looking on helplessly as DRI officials take out the stacks of notes wrapped in foil.

The notes had been packed in foil to evade the airport security scanner.

Kulshreshtha is accused of working with a New Delhi resident named Amit Malhotra, who ran a network to smuggle currency.

It is reported that Malhotra had befriended the Jet airways flight attendant six months ago during a flight to India.

A senior DRI official said: “Malhotra would collect money from some bullion dealers in Delhi and send it via some air hostess to select foreign destinations. The money was being used for purchasing gold abroad. The gold would then be sent to India illegally.”

Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Thursday remanded the two suspects in custody until 25th January.
