Two of Europe’s largest airlines have been hit by strike action, cancelling hundreds of flights and affecting tens of thousands of passengers.
German airline Lufthansa said it will cancel “more than 800” flights on Tuesday because of a walkout by public sector workers.
In a social media post shared yesterday, Lufthansa said they “must cancel more than 800 of its planned 1,600 flights tomorrow, including 58 long-distance services.”
“Some 90,000 passengers would be affected”, it added.
Passengers flying domestically have been instructed to use Deutsche Bahn rail instead.
Lufthansa air travel should be back to normal on Wednesday.
Elsewhere on the continent, Air France has grounded one in four of its flights as airline staff demand a 6% pay rise.
Tuesday’s walkout is the latest in a string of strike action by Air France employees.
Air France has said that the walkouts are costing the airline €25 million each day.
Strikes are set to continue on Wednesday, with further walkouts planned on five more days over the next few weeks.
The Air France industrial action coincides with strikes by workers at the state railway operator SNCF.
Both Lufthansa and Air France have told passengers, whose flights had not been cancelled, to get to the airports earlier for their flights.
