A passenger aboard the Jet Airways flight that had a sudden drop in cabin air pressure has been diagnosed with permanent hearing loss.
In September, Jet Airways passengers suffered nose and ear bleeding as the pilots “forgot” to turn on a switch that controls cabin air pressure.
According to reports, at least 30 passengers on the Mumbai to Jaipur flight suffered injuries.
One in particular, Mukesh Sharma, has now been diagnosed with permanent hearing loss, reported the Hindustan Times.
Sharma, a PhD researcher from the University of Aveiro, Portugal, claims he underwent an audiometry test on November 12 which revealed the damage.
“The reports revealed that I have suffered a permanent hearing loss. There were a number of soft sounds I wasn’t able to detect and unless a person is standing face-to-face with me and speaking, I am not able to listen to the words. While speaking on phone, I use my left ear as the right one is most affected,” he said.
Doctors have warned Sharma that the his loss in hearing is likely to worsen with age and is irreversible unless he undergoes surgery.
Sharma and another passenger who suffered a similar injury said they are in the process of filing a lawsuit against Jet Airways.
