A 14-year-old boy travelling as an unaccompanied minor was allegedly put on a plane heading to the wrong country by United Airlines.

 

United Airlines has apologised after an unaccompanied minor was put on a Eurowings flight to Germany instead of a SAS flight to Sweden.

 

Anton Berg, 14, was travelling alone to visit his grandparents in Sweden from his home in North Carolina.

 

The boy’s mother booked his trip through the Scandinavian airline, SAS, flying from Raleigh-Durham International Airport and connecting to Stockholm via Newark.

 

However, the mother claims United Airlines staff directed her son to the wrong plane and was almost sent to the wrong country.

 

According to his mother, Berg is an “experienced traveller”, and so realised he was on the wrong flight when he took his seat on the Eurowings plane destined for Dusseldorf, Germany.

 

Although he was able to get off the Eurowings plane before it took off, the SAS flight had already departed.

 

Berg was re-booked on a flight to Copenhagen, Denmark, with a connection on to Stockholm.

 

 

A spokesman for United Airlines, who charges $150 for their unaccompanied minor service, told USA Today the airline has been in touch with the Berg family and apologised.
