American Airlines will resume flights with Boeing’s 737 MAX jets in January | Secret Flying

American Airlines has targeted a date for the aircraft’s return.

In a statement posted online, American Airlines said it will resume flights with Boeing’s 737 MAX jets from 16th January 2020.

The carrier said it was confident “the impending software updates to the Boeing 737 MAX will lead to recertification of the aircraft later this year.”

However, US regulators have so far kept quiet about when they expect to approve the jet.

The entire 737 MAX line has been grounded worldwide since March after 346 people died when Ethiopian Airlines and Lion Air planes crashed 4-months apart.

The disasters were blamed on the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, or MCAS.

In the event of a damaged sensor, the system would push the plane’s nose down, thinking that the aircraft was in a stall, ultimately putting it into a dive.

Boeing has promised to fix the software and have the planes back in the air by the end of the year.

United Airlines and Southwest Airlines are reluctant to set a return-to-service date.

Last month, United said once it does start flying the planes again, passengers fearful of boarding a Boeing 737 MAX will be able to rebook onto another flight for free.
