The new blue British passports will begin to be issued next month.
British passports are undergoing a large overhaul in the post-Brexit period as they change from burgundy back to blue, starting next month.
The UK government hailed the return of an “iconic” document which was last used in 1988 before burgundy passports were rolled out across EU countries.
The colour of the British passport was a thorny issue in the lead up to the EU Referendum.
Home secretary, Priti Patel, said the document is “once again entwined with our national identity.”
According to reports, the new Brexit-era passports will ironically be made in a factory in Poland by a Franco/Dutch company.
“I actually like the French-designed Polish-printed new UK passport,” former Remain MEP Seb Dance tweeted.
“Of course the previous one — which allowed Brits the right to work, study and retire freely across their own continent — was probably more useful.”
Burgundy passports can still be used for travel until they expire.
