Wuhan hosts huge pool party as coronavirus concerns recede.
Thousands of Wuhan residents were packed shoulder-to-shoulder with no social distancing measures in place at a huge water park festival last weekend.
Images show very large crowds in the Wuhan Playa Maya Water Park on Saturday, in a city where the coronavirus is thought to have first emerged late last year.
Without any face masks or social distancing in view, the festival has drawn criticism from around the world as the Covid-19 global death toll continues to rise.
“People are dying of COVID-19 around the world and these Chinese people are the ones responsible of spreading it intentionally, and now they are partying, these Chinese have forgotten that they hid the virus and had a bad intention for the rest of the world. Nonsense people,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Discraseful whilst the rest of the world is still suffering China starts to party,” another wrote.
However, there have been some users in support of Wuhan’s return to normal life.
“The youth of China are now having fun. Wuhan is what happens when a govt act decisively to crush COVID19: whole city lockdown, hospital build in 7 days, 11 million tested, life returns to normal aft 3 month. This could be you had your gov acted effectively,” one tweet said.
The Chinese Communist Party claim there have been no new domestically transmitted cases officially reported in Wuhan’s Hubei province since May.
Currently, the water park receives an average of 15,000 daily visitors.
