Final Blockbuster to open for sleepovers.
The world’s last brick-and-mortar Blockbuster rental store in Bend, Oregon is being converted into an Airbnb.
For millions, Friday night in the 90’s and 2000’s meant browsing your local Blockbuster for a movie. Then Netflix and streaming happened, putting the iconic company out of business.
For those who fancy a night of nostalgia, there’s a chance for one last Blockbuster sleepover inside the world’s final store.
Preview photos on Airbnb show that guests will stay in a revamped living room, complete with a big television and couch that folds out into a bed.
In keeping with the 90’s theme, the “home” will have a VCR and all the store’s VHS tapes re-winded and ready for you to have a night-long movie marathon.
It will also have a boombox and retro video games machine for visitors to play into the night.
According to reports, stays will only cost $4 per night – a penny more than what you would spend for a new release.
“It’s our 20th year as a Blockbuster, we were hoping to celebrate that this year, but with Covid throwing a wrench into everybody’s plans, we were really excited to be able to pull this off,” store manager (and soon to be superhost), Sandi Harding said.
“With everybody being stuck at home and re-experiencing family time together, we thought it would be fun to enjoy some family time in a throwback ’90s environment.”
One-night reservations start from September 18.
