Delta has banned hundreds of passengers.

Delta Air Lines revealed that it has banned hundreds of passengers who refused to wear face masks on flights during the coronavirus pandemic.

In an internal memo outlining public health measures the company has taken, CEO Ed Bastian said the airline has added 270 passengers to its no-fly list.

“Although rare, we continue to put passengers who refuse to follow the required face-covering rules on our no-fly list,” he said.

“We take the requirement to wear a mask very seriously. Customers who choose not to comply with this or any other safety requirement risk losing their future flight privileges with Delta.”

The federal government has not implemented mask-wearing regulations, however, airlines are free to impose their own policies.

Despite airlines making it clear when booking a ticket that face masks must be worn at all times, some passengers still board the plane refusing to do so.

In the latest incident, a Delta flight on Sunday at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport was forced to return to the gate after a traveller refused to wear a face covering.

“The customer was removed from the plane, and the flight departed without incident,” an airline spokeswoman said.
