Police shooting causes delays at airport.

A police officer shot a man at Toronto Pearson International Airport early on Thursday morning, prompting a partial closure in Terminal 1’s departure area, according to local authorities.

Details surrounding the incident remain scarce. The man’s age and current medical condition have not yet been disclosed. Paramedics responded swiftly, dispatching four ambulances to the scene shortly before 7 a.m.

Peel Regional Police, who oversee operations at the airport, have not confirmed whether the individual was in possession of a weapon at the time. However, officials reported that the officer involved was unharmed and insisted there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

In keeping with protocol following incidents of police-related injury, the Special Investigations Unit has been brought in. This Ontario-based oversight body is tasked with investigating situations where police conduct may have resulted in serious harm or death.

Travellers using Terminal 1 were advised to expect significant delays. To manage foot traffic and ensure safety, airport staff rerouted passengers through the arrivals section for both entry and exit.

This event follows another recent disruption at the same airport. In February, a Delta Air Lines aircraft flipped upon landing, injuring several of the 76 passengers and four crew members. Fortunately, all occupants were able to evacuate safely.

Toronto Pearson is Canada’s busiest airport, and the temporary closure of part of its largest terminal is expected to have a ripple effect on flights and passenger movement throughout the day.
