Casablanca, Morocco’s economic powerhouse and largest city, is served primarily by one major international airport. A second, smaller airport handles domestic and limited regional flights. As the primary air gateway to Morocco, understanding the layout and transport options from Casablanca’s airports is essential for a smooth start or end to your journey, whether you’re staying in the city or connecting to other Moroccan destinations.

This guide explains every airport serving the Casablanca region, including IATA codes, terminal layouts, and clear, plain-English explanations of how to get to and from each one.

Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport (CMN)

Overview: Mohammed V International Airport is the busiest and most important airport in Morocco. Located approximately 30 km (19 miles) southeast of central Casablanca in the town of Nouasseur, it serves as the primary hub for the national carrier Royal Air Maroc and handles the vast majority of international long-haul flights, as well as domestic and regional traffic.

Terminals:

Terminal 1 (T1): The original and now primarily domestic terminal. Handles most domestic flights on Royal Air Maroc and other carriers within Morocco.
Terminal 2 (T2): The newer, larger, and main international terminal. Handles all long-haul international flights, as well as many regional and some domestic flights. It is the terminal most international travellers will use.

Note: The two terminals are connected by a free, frequent shuttle bus service (navette) that takes about 5-10 minutes. The shuttle runs 24/7. Always confirm which terminal your flight operates from, especially for domestic connections on Royal Air Maroc, as they can use either terminal.

Getting to and from Mohammed V Airport (CMN):

ONCF Train (Al Bidaoui City-Airport Train):
The most efficient and recommended way to reach central Casablanca. The station is located directly beneath Terminal 1. Trains run every hour (more frequently at peak times) to Casa-Voyageurs station (main intercity hub, 45 min) and Casa-Port station (closer to the city centre and medina, 35 min). Tickets are inexpensive and can be purchased at the station. From either station, you can take a taxi to your final destination.
Grand Taxi (Shared Taxi):
These are older, shared Mercedes sedans that depart when full (6 passengers). They are a very cheap but less comfortable option. They leave from outside T1 and go to specific points in the city, like Casa-Voyageurs station. Not recommended for tourists with luggage or first-time visitors due to confusion and lack of door-to-door service.
Petit Taxi (Metered City Taxi):
The small, red (in Casablanca) metered taxis are not allowed to pick up passengers at the airport for trips into the city. You can only use them for drop-offs. Do not accept offers from drivers inside the terminal claiming to be petit taxis.
Private Airport Transfer / Pre-booked Taxi:
The most convenient, hassle-free, and comfortable door-to-door option. Can be booked online or arranged by your hotel. A driver will meet you in the arrivals hall with a sign. Fixed price agreed in advance.
Car Rental:
All major international and local car rental companies have desks in the arrivals halls of both terminals. A good option if you plan to explore beyond Casablanca immediately upon arrival.

Best for: All international travellers, those connecting to other Moroccan cities via Royal Air Maroc, and anyone heading to central Casablanca, the Corniche, or using it as a transit hub for Morocco.

Casablanca Tit Mellil Airport (Unknown IATA) – General Aviation

Overview: Tit Mellil is a small airfield located about 20 km (12 miles) southeast of central Casablanca. It is used exclusively for general aviation (private jets, charter flights, air taxi services, and flight training). It does not handle scheduled commercial passenger flights.

Terminals:

Small general aviation terminal (FBO) for private operations.

Getting to and from Tit Mellil Airport:

Private Transfer or Pre-arranged Taxi:
Mandatory. Transport must be arranged by your charter company or in advance, as there is no public transport or taxi rank on-site.

Best for: Private jet clients, business aviation, and chartered air services. Not relevant for typical airline passengers.

Which Casablanca Airport Should You Choose?

For 100% of commercial airline passengers, the answer is Mohammed V International Airport (CMN). It is the only airport in Casablanca with scheduled passenger services.

Important Transit Note: Casablanca’s CMN is a major connecting hub for Royal Air Maroc, especially for flights from North America and Europe to destinations across West Africa. If you have a connecting flight in Casablanca, even if on a single ticket, you will likely need to:

Clear Moroccan passport control.
Collect your checked baggage.
Clear customs.
Re-check your bags for your onward flight.
Go through security again.

This process can be time-consuming. Allow a minimum of 3 hours for connections in Casablanca, especially if arriving on an international flight and connecting to a domestic one.

Key Tips for Mohammed V International Airport (CMN)

Arrival Process:

Immigration: Have your passport ready. EU, US, UK, and Canadian citizens do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Your passport will be stamped.
Money: Withdraw Moroccan Dirhams (MAD) from ATMs in the baggage claim or arrivals hall. Avoid currency exchange desks at the airport for large amounts, as rates are poor.
SIM Cards: Kiosks for the main Moroccan telecom operators (Maroc Telecom, Orange, Inwi) are in the arrivals hall. Purchasing a local SIM with data is inexpensive and highly recommended.

Departure Process:

Check-in: For international flights, arrive at least 3 hours early. For domestic, 2 hours is sufficient.
Security & Immigration: Lines for exit passport control can be long. After immigration, you’ll find a large duty-free area and gates.
Lounges: Several lounges (including Royal Air Maroc’s premium lounges in T2) are available for business/first class passengers or via lounge access programs.

Navigating Between Terminals:

Look for signs for the “Navette T1-T2” / “Shuttle Bus.” The pickup is outside the arrivals level of each terminal.

Ground Transport from CMN to Key Destinations

To Central Casablanca (City Centre, Medina, Hassan II Mosque):

Train to Casa-Port + Petit Taxi: Take the airport train to Casa-Port station (35 min), then take a red petit taxi from the rank outside to your final destination (5-15 min, use the meter). Best overall combination of speed, price, and convenience.
Private Transfer: 30-50 minutes depending on traffic, fixed price (approx. 250-400 MAD). Door-to-door convenience.

To Casa-Voyageurs Station (for train connections to Marrakech, Fez, etc.):

Direct Train: The airport train goes directly to Casa-Voyageurs (45 min). This is the simplest way to begin an intercity rail journey.

To the Corniche (Ain Diab) or Mohammedia:

Private Transfer or Pre-booked Taxi: Most practical, as the train doesn’t serve these coastal areas directly. Journey time to the Corniche: 40-60 mins.

To Rabat (Capital City):

Train: Take the airport train to Casa-Voyageurs (45 min), then transfer to a frequent train to Rabat Ville station (approx. 1 hour). Total journey: ~2 hours.
Private Transfer: Direct door-to-door, approx. 1 hour 15 minutes by road, but more expensive.

Bottom Line: The airport train is your best friend when arriving at CMN. It is reliable, affordable, and avoids traffic. Combine it with a petit taxi for the final leg to your hotel.
