Cheap Flights From Aspen

Finding Cheap Flights From Aspen

Aspen is served by Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE), a regional airport located just outside the famous ski resort town. Due to its mountain location, high demand, and operational challenges, flights are often expensive and cater primarily to affluent leisure travelers, with a focus on connections to major U.S. hubs during the ski season.

The airport's schedule is highly seasonal, with peak operations from December to April. Key routes are direct flights to major airline hubs, including Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) on American, Los Angeles (LAX) on United and American, Chicago (ORD) on United, and Atlanta (ATL) on Delta. There are also seasonal flights from other cities like Newark (EWR), San Francisco (SFO), and Houston (IAH). Summer sees a drastically reduced schedule.

Aspen Airport is served by a select group of major network carriers. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines operate the majority of flights. Smaller regional jets are common due to the mountainous terrain. There are no low-cost carriers operating from ASE.

Finding "cheap" flights from Aspen is very difficult. To get the best available fares, book ski season flights as early as possible—often 6 months or more in advance. Consider flying into alternative airports for significant savings:

  • Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE): Serving Vail, about a 1.5-hour drive from Aspen.
  • Denver International Airport (DEN): A 3.5 to 4-hour drive, offering a vast network and much more competitive fares.
  • Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT): About a 2.5-hour drive.
For most travelers, flying into Denver and taking a shuttle or rental car is the most economical way to reach Aspen, despite the longer transfer.
