Cheap Flights To Southend (London Southend)

Finding Cheap Flights To Southend

Southend is served by London Southend Airport (SEN), one of London's six major airports, located in Essex. It has historically served as a base for low-cost arrivals, offering a focused network of European city and leisure destinations into SEN. However, its commercial passenger service has been significantly reduced in recent years.

The airport's current scheduled arrival network is minimal. It primarily offers flights from a limited number of European destinations, such as Amsterdam (AMS) into SEN, and some seasonal services. Historically, it had a wider range of arrival routes with airlines like easyJet and Ryanair, but these have largely been withdrawn or suspended. The airport now functions with a much-reduced schedule for arrivals.

Previously, easyJet was the dominant carrier into SEN. Currently, scheduled services into Southend are operated by a very limited number of airlines, with Loganair potentially operating some arrival routes. The airport's future commercial passenger service is uncertain, and it sees very few flights compared to its peak.

To find cheap flights to the Southend/London region, travelers should now primarily use other London airports. The closest and most viable alternatives for arrivals into the area are:

  • London Stansted (STN): Approximately a 40-minute drive from Southend, offering an extensive low-cost arrival network from across Europe with Ryanair and easyJet.
  • London Gatwick (LGW): Approximately a 1-hour drive, providing a vast mix of low-cost and full-service arrival flights from worldwide destinations.
  • London City (LCY): Approximately 40-50 minutes, good for business arrivals from European hubs.
For the best fares into the Southend region, book arrival flights into STN or LGW well in advance, then take ground transport (train, taxi, or bus) to Southend. London Southend Airport is currently not a reliable arrival option for most air travel needs due to its extremely limited service.
