A blackout period is a date window which an airline has excluded from a sale.

These date windows are usually during high-demand periods like Christmas and the summer months.
Do all sales have blackout periods?
No, but most do. If an airline has a great sale from October to March, it is quite likely that dates over Christmas and the New Year will not have the sale price.
Some airlines also exclude weekends from their sales. This usually happens with short-haul flights to popular weekend destinations e.g. New York to Las Vegas.
