Cheap Flights To Baltra (Galápagos)

Finding Cheap Flights To Baltra

Note: Seymour Airport (GPS) on Baltra Island is the main aviation gateway to the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador. Flights are almost exclusively from mainland Ecuador to the islands, and prices are regulated and high due to the remote location and conservation fees.

Baltra is served by Seymour Galápagos Ecological Airport (GPS). It provides the vital air link from mainland Ecuador to the Galápagos Islands. All flights arriving into GPS are domestic, connecting from either Quito (UIO) or Guayaquil (GYE) on the mainland. There are no international or inter-island commercial flights into GPS; travel to Baltra from other islands is done via boat or small inter-island air services from San Cristóbal (SCY).

The market for arrivals into GPS is controlled by two or three Ecuadorian airlines operating under a government-regulated system. Avianca Ecuador and LATAM Ecuador are the primary carriers on the route to Baltra. EQUAIR is a newer, lower-cost option that has introduced some price competition for flights into GPS. The number of flights and seats arriving at the airport is limited to control tourist impact, which keeps fares consistently high.

To find the most affordable flights to Baltra, you must book your one-way ticket from the mainland (Quito or Guayaquil) to GPS as part of your round-trip Galápagos itinerary before you travel to the islands. Standalone one-way tickets purchased last minute into Baltra are extremely expensive and often unavailable. Book your UIO-GPS or GYE-GPS flight at least 2-3 months in advance, especially for peak season (June-August, December-January) arrivals at GPS. Always compare Avianca, LATAM, and EQUAIR for flights to Baltra. While prices are high, flying mid-week into GPS may offer a slight discount. Remember, your flight cost to Baltra is in addition to the mandatory Galápagos National Park entry fee ($100) and Transit Control Card ($20) payable upon arrival.
