Cheap Flights To Bournemouth

Finding Cheap Flights To Bournemouth

Bournemouth is served by Bournemouth Airport (BOH), a regional airport on the south coast of England. It operates primarily as a leisure airport, with a schedule dominated by low-cost and charter arrivals from European holiday destinations. Outside of the peak summer season, the arrival network is very limited, so timing is critical if you want to fly directly into BOH.

The airport's arrivals are highly seasonal, with peak operations from April to October. Its network consists almost entirely of point-to-point services from popular sun destinations across Spain (Alicante, Malaga, Palma), Portugal (Faro), Greece (Crete, Corfu), Cyprus (Paphos), Turkey (Dalaman), and the Canary Islands (Tenerife, Lanzarote). There are also a limited number of year-round arrivals from city-break destinations like Dublin (DUB) and, occasionally, a few European cities on Ryanair. Don't expect many business or intercontinental arrivals here.

Bournemouth Airport is a key arrival point for the holiday airline TUI Airways, which operates the majority of its flights into BOH from Mediterranean and Canary Islands resorts. Ryanair also has a significant presence, offering low-cost arrivals from a select few European destinations (e.g., Dublin, Alicante, Malaga). The airport lacks any major full-service carriers or long-haul arrivals, so connecting from outside Europe is not possible directly — you'll need to land at a larger hub first.

To find cheap flights to Bournemouth, the best value often comes from booking package holidays (flight + hotel) with TUI well in advance for the summer season. For point-to-point travel on Ryanair, book several months ahead. Be aware that the airport's arrival schedule is drastically reduced from November to March, with very few flights — sometimes only a handful per week. For more flexible travel, a wider range of destinations, or off-season trips, consider using larger airports within a reasonable drive, such as:

  • Southampton Airport (SOU): About a 45-minute drive, offering more business and European city routes from airlines like Loganair, KLM, and Aer Lingus.
  • London Gatwick (LGW) or Heathrow (LHR): Within a 2-hour drive, providing global connectivity and far more frequent flights from North America, Asia, and the Middle East.

Always compare the total cost and convenience of flying into BOH versus traveling to a larger hub. Sometimes a cheap Ryanair fare into Bournemouth works beautifully for a summer beach trip, but for winter or long-haul arrivals, Gatwick or Heathrow will almost certainly be cheaper and more reliable.
