Goa, India’s premier beach destination, is served by one major international airport and a smaller, older airport used primarily for charter and military flights. Understanding which airport your flight uses is crucial, as they are on opposite ends of the small state and cater to different types of traffic. Manohar International Airport, Goa (GOX / GOI)

Overview: This is Goa’s new, primary international airport. Opened in 2022 and located in Mopa, in the northernmost part of Goa, approximately 50 km (31 miles) from the state capital Panaji. It was built to decongest the older Dabolim airport and now handles most domestic and international scheduled flights, including long-haul charters from Europe and Russia.

Dabolim Airport (GOI)

Overview: This is Goa’s original airport, located near Vasco da Gama in South Goa, about 30 km (19 miles) from Panaji. It is a civil enclave within a military airbase (INS Hansa). While it has lost most of its scheduled commercial traffic to Mopa, it still handles a limited number of scheduled flights (notably from SpiceJet and some Air India routes) and ad-hoc charters.

Terminals:

• Single Terminal: An older, smaller terminal that can get crowded. It has separate sections for domestic and international arrivals.

Getting to and from GOI (Dabolim):

• Pre-paid Taxi & App-Based Cabs:
  The same options apply (pre-paid counters, GoaMiles, Uber, Ola). From Dabolim, trips to South Goa beaches (like Colva, Benaulim) are much shorter and cheaper (20-40 mins, ₹800-1500). To North Goa (like Calangute) takes 1-1.5 hours.
