Terminals:

Terminal 1A (Piers A & B): An extension of T1, also used by low-cost carriers.
Terminal 2: Currently closed for renovation. All operations are consolidated in Terminal 1 and 3.
Terminal 3: The main terminal for Austrian Airlines, Star Alliance partners, and most other full-service international airlines. It is the largest and newest terminal, featuring the SkyLines shopping area and the ‘Market’ food hall.

All terminals are connected under one roof. The walk from the farthest gates in T1 to T3 can take 15-20 minutes, but moving walkways are available.

City Airport Train (CAT):

Overview: Despite its name, this airport is located in Bratislava, Slovakia, approximately 60 km (37 miles) east of Vienna. It is marketed as an alternative low-cost airport for the Vienna region and is a base for Ryanair. Using it requires crossing an international border (Austria/Slovakia).

Getting to Vienna from Bratislava Airport (BTS):

Slovak Lines/FlixBus: Direct coach services run between BTS and Vienna (stations like Erdberg or Hauptbahnhof). Journey time is about 1 hour 15 minutes.
Taxi/Private Transfer: A direct car service is possible but expensive (€80-€120) and subject to border checks.
Public Transit Combo: Complex: Take a bus from BTS to Bratislava main station, then a train to Vienna. Total time: ~1.5-2 hours.

Best for: Travelers who find significantly cheaper Ryanair flights and don’t mind the longer, multi-country transfer. Not the most convenient option for Vienna itself.

Which Vienna Airport Should You Choose?

Choose Vienna International (VIE): For convenience, full-service airlines, and the fastest, most direct links to the city. This is the best choice for almost all visitors.
Consider Bratislava (BTS) only if: You are on a very tight budget, flying Ryanair to a specific route, and are prepared for a 75+ minute bus transfer and border formalities (Schengen area, so usually no passport control, but keep ID handy).

Essential Travel Information for Vienna Airport (VIE)

Efficiency: VIE is known for being clean, organized, and efficient. Security lines are generally quick. Arriving 90 minutes before a Schengen flight and 2 hours before a non-Schengen flight is typically ample.
