A 12-year-old Australian boy stole his mother’s credit card, tricked his grandmother into giving him his passport and flew to Bali solo after a family argument.

Australian police are investigating how a 12-year-old boy from Sydney, Australia managed to book himself a flight to Bali and fly unaccompanied.

The unnamed boy was left furious after his parents decided to cancel a holiday to the Indonesian island.

After unsuccessful attempts to fly with Qantas and Garuda Indonesia, the 12-year-old boarded a Jetstar flight from Sydney to Perth before taking an international flight to Bali’s Denpasar airport.

He presented only his passport and school ID to Jetstar staff.

“They just asked for my student ID and passport to prove that I am over 12 and that I am in secondary school,” he said on Australia’s A Current Affair programme.

Once the boy arrived in Bali, he checked in to the All Seasons hotel, telling staff he was waiting for his older sister to arrive.

Australian Federal Police confirmed they were alerted to his presence in Bali on 17th March. He was taken into protective custody before being reunited with his parents.
