A 79-year-old former flight attendant is suing Delta Air Lines for firing her, as she claims she was let go of because of her age.
Ida Gomez Llanos, who worked for the airline for 57 years, says she was bullied and harassed on the job.
In a lawsuit filed earlier this month, Ms Gomez claims she received praise by employers for her exemplary work and that her attendance was perfect.
However, she believes because of her $250,000 salary, some co-workers became jealous and schemed to get rid of her.
Her attorney described Ms Gomez as a hard-working, wonderful woman. “They destroyed her career, her profession,” he said.
In a statement, Delta told Inside Edition: “While Ms. Gomez had a long career at Delta, she was only one of more than 2,600 flight attendants with 40 or more years of seniority.
“Any suggestion that Delta terminated Ms. Gomez because of her age or for taking a catering item off a plane is false and grossly misleading. While Delta does not generally discuss the details of an employee’s job performance, it can say that Ms. Gomez was terminated only after being repeatedly counseled and disciplined for committing numerous policy violations, none of which were determined to be “fabricated” as she now contends.”
Ms Gomez shared her story with Inside Edition.
