Alitalia launches ‘Covid-tested’ flights | Secret Flying

Passengers must test negative before boarding.

Alitalia has implemented rapid Covid-19 testing on selected flights between Rome Fiumicino and Milan.

To board these flights, passengers will have to either take a free rapid test at the airport or bring a medical certificate with a negative test result from within 72 hours before boarding.

“A Ministry of Maritime, Air and Border Health (USMAF) doctor will check the validity of the certificate already held by passengers,” Alitalia explained in a statement.

If a passenger tests positive, they will be eligible for a refund or voucher for another flight.

The trial is aimed at boosting passenger confidence, with plans to expand the testing throughout its network.

Earlier this month, Rome’s Fiumicino Airport was recently given Europe’s only five-star “Anti-Covid” award from international airline ratings body Skytrax.

The Airport has transformed one of its parking lots into a testing facility, available to both travellers and non-travellers.

It’s unclear if ‘Covid-tested’ passengers are still required to wear face masks onboard after all testing negative.
