American Airlines now offers non-binary gender options when booking | Secret Flying

American Airlines has become the second US carrier to feature more than two gender options.

American Airlines has joined United in offering non-binary gender options for customers during the booking process.

American passengers can now choose “U” or “X” for their gender by calling the airline and booking their flights. The same option will soon be available on the airline’s website.

“U” stands for undisclosed, whilst “X” means unspecified.

“We recently completed a system update to offer non-binary gender selections,” company spokesperson Ross Feinstein told USA Today.

“Taking care of our customers and team members is what we do, and we are glad to be able to better accommodate the gender preferences of our travelers and team members,” he added.

United Airlines was the first US-based airline to offer more than male and female options for ticket purchasers in March.

Elsewhere in North America, Air Canada shared its plan to stop referring to passengers as “ladies and gentlemen” in an effort to not offend any of its customers.

Instead, the airline will use words like “everybody” during boarding announcements.
