An American Eagle jet with 43 passengers was forced to abort a takeoff Tuesday morning when it struck and killed a deer.
An American Eagle regional plane, departing from Williamsport Regional Airport in Montoursville, aborted its takeoff Tuesday morning after striking a deer.
As the plane was speeding down the runway, the deer ran in front of the aircraft and was struck, killing the animal instantly.
All 43 passengers on board the Embraer ERJ 145 escaped uninjured.
A visual inspection revealed only minor damage but the plane will be thoroughly checked at a maintenance facility before it is returned to service, an American Airlines spokeswoman said.
The flight was cancelled and passengers were accommodated on other American Eagle flights to Philadelphia.
Airport executive director, Thomas J. Hart, said the the deer must have jumped the perimeter fence.
