British Airways is testing VR entertainment on flights from London Heathrow to New York JFK.

British Airways has announced a new pilot program that will see it offer virtual reality headsets on flights between London Heathrow and New York’s JFK airport.

First Class passengers will be able to enjoy a selection of films, documentaries and travel programmes through the VR headsets until the end of 2019.

A range of therapeutic VR experiences, such as guided meditation and sound therapy will also be included.

The SkyLights headsets are a lot lighter than other popular VR headsets, weighing just 250 grams.

“We are always looking at the latest technology to enhance our customers’ experience on the ground and in the air,” said Sajida Ismail, head of in-flight product at British Airways.

“VR has the power to revolutionise in-flight entertainment and we’re really excited to trial these new glasses as they should create a unique and memorable journey for our customers.”

It is unlikely the trial will extend to the business or economy class cabins.

Qantas and Alaska Airlines previously tested VR entertainment, whilst JetBlue gave Google Cardboard headsets to passengers.
