BA selling off its in-flight items.
British Airways has announced it will be selling off thousands of items of surplus stock, from champagne flutes to bedding, in a first for the company.
The sale also includes items such as William Edwards plates, soup bowls, cups and saucers, all introduced on planes only 18 months ago.
The carrier said the sale will let buyers “re-create a magical flying experience at home.”
This is the first time BA has given people the opportunity “to get their hands on items from British Airways aircraft which have circled the globe hundreds of times,” the airline said in a press release.
Carolina Martinoli, the director of brand and customer experience at BA, said: “We know that these special items will fly and we are delighted to be able to offer them in time for Christmas to give people the opportunity to make it memorable during a difficult year.”
The announcement comes months after the airline decided to auction some of its precious artwork hanging in offices and airport lounges to help it get through the travel slump caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Last month, BA’s parent company IAG reported a £5.1bn ($6.8bn) loss for the first nine months of 2020, a huge contrast to the £1.6bn ($2.1bn) profit made during the same period last year.
