British Airways launches Avios-only flights

British Airways launches Avios-only flights | Secret Flying

British Airways flights bookable exclusively with Avios.

In a first for British Airways, the airline has launched Avios-only flights, whereby passengers can only book a seat on the plane with points.

BA will offer a series of flights to peak destinations during peak times, reserving every seat on the plane for Avios bookings.

Qantas have had a similar program for few years, which the Australian carrier calls “points planes.”

British Airways will operate the “Avios-only” flights starting in November 2023 continuing in March 2024, with London being the launch city for both. Flights will be available to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt and to Geneva during peak ski season.

More Avios-only flights are expected to be announced throughout 2023.

Pricing for London to Geneva starts at 18,500 Avios + £1 roundtrip in economy or £1 plus 30,000 Avios for business class, with the opportunity to lower points costs by using more cash.

The London to Sharm El Sheikh roundtrip flights will cost £1 plus 27,500 points for economy or £1 plus 48,500 for business class.

Speaking about the new concept, Ian Romanis, British Airways’ Head of Mixed Fleet Cabin Crew said: “We are always looking for new ways to reward our loyal customers and offer value wherever we can, which is why we are excited about this brand-new option for Members. Sharm El Sheikh and Geneva will be the first of several flights as we roll more out in 2024.”

Tom Stoddart, BA Euroflyer’s CEO, said: “We are proud to be operating British Airways’ first Avios-Only flight. BA Euroflyer is the only short-haul carrier based at Gatwick to offer a loyalty programme, and now we’re offering more value and choice than ever for our Members.”
