Flight from London to Dusseldorf landed more than 960 km away in Edinburgh by mistake.
British Airways has been forced to apologise after a flight carried passengers from London to Edinburgh instead of the intended destination of Dusseldorf.
Flight BA3271 took off from London City Airport shortly after 7.30am on Monday with the scheduled destination of the German city.
However, when the plane landed, passengers were greeted with a “welcome to Edinburgh” announcement.
Ms Cooke, a management consultant who travels to Dusseldorf every week, said to the BBC: “The pilot said he had no idea how it had happened. He said it had never happened before and that the crew was trying to work out what we could do.”
After the pilots were alerted to the mistake, the plane was refuelled and then flown to Dusseldorf, where it arrived more than three-and-a-half hours late.
British Airways said the aircraft – a 96-seat BAe-146 regional jet – was operated by German charter firm WDL Aviation on behalf of BA CityFlyer.
“We are working with WDL Aviation, who operated this flight on behalf of British Airways, to establish why the incorrect flight plan was filed,” BA said in a statement.

Ryanair has since offered to send a copy of Geography for Dummies to BA.
