A British flight attendant working for Emirates has found herself behind bars after Dubai police reportedly found drugs in the apartment of her date.

Derrin Crawford, 23, went out for dinner on a first date with an unnamed British executive, after which she agreed to go back to his apartment.

Once there, police raided the apartment reportedly finding two cannabis joints, resulting in the arrest of the pair.

Ms Crawford, who is from Liverpool, was held for several days at the local police station before she was transferred to the infamous al-Barsha prison.

Her family have spoken publicly about the ordeal, pleading for the British government to have her released.

Derrin’s sister, Danielle, told a British tabloid newspaper: “She is innocent, she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The police have been trying to interrogate her, but she doesn’t even know this guy.

“She doesn’t drink or smoke and has a good job with Emirates, so it is a shame she has got caught up in all this. She’s only 23 and is just so scared.”

According to Danielle, the authorities agreed to let her sister go if she tested negative for drugs.

Derrin is said to have passed the test on Thursday but is still being held.

A UK Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting a British woman who is currently detained in the UAE and will look to visit her when local lockdown restrictions are lifted.”
