First person receives Pfizer jab in UK.

 

A British grandmother has become the first person in the world to be given the Pfizer Covid-19 jab outside of clinical trials.

 

The new shot was approved by the UK drug regulator last week in record time.

 

Margaret Keenan’s vaccine was the first of 800,000 doses that will be dispensed in the coming weeks, with up to four million more expected by the end of the month.

 

“My advice to anyone offered the vaccine is to take it ­— if I can have it at 90, then you can have it, too,” she said

 

The British government hailed the first injections as a turning point in the fight against the coronavirus which has killed more than 1.5 million people worldwide.

 

“I’m feeling quite emotional, actually, watching those pictures,” British Health Secretary Matt Hancock said, dubbing the day “V-day”.

 

“It’s been such a tough year for so many people, and finally we have our way through it, our light at the end of the tunnel.”

 

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said getting vaccinated was “good for you and good for the whole country”.

 

Top of the list to receive the vaccine are over-80s, NHS staff and care home personnel.

 

Brits will now be looking forward to travelling internatinally in the spring and summer as some airlines and countries are expected to make the vaccine mandatory for travel.
