Cathay Pacific to crack down on cabin crew stealing ice cream and wet wipes | Secret Flying

Cathay Pacific has vowed to act on ‘pilferage’.

Cathay Pacific fight attendants will be randomly inspected after staff were reported to be stealing ‘hundreds of millions’ of dollars worth of mini ice cream pots, wet wipes, and company-branded pens.

According to reports, six employees returning from Seoul on flight CX415 on Saturday are currently under investigation and awaiting disciplinary action after security teams spot checked them at Hong Kong International Airport.

Items such as mini pots of Haagen-Dazs ice cream, branded pens and wet wipes were understood to be among the items that were taken from flights.

“In view of an increasing number of reported losses of company property, we have informed our cabin crew that random inspections will be carried out,” said an airline spokesperson.

The airline has a zero-tolerance policy on taking company property, according to an internal memo circulated in January.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Cathay Pacific CEO Rupert Hogg admitted the blame may lie elsewhere.

“The bigger issue is a pilferage issue and it may not necessarily be around cabin crew,” he said.

“We are losing, I don’t know, wine or things like that from aircraft or somewhere in the supply chain.”
