A Delta Air Lines flight bound for Nice, France had to make a U-turn nearly halfway through the flight thanks to a broken toilet.
A Delta flight destined for Nice, France turned back to the US 3.5 hours into the flight after a traveller broke the plane’s toilet.
Flight DL412 left New York City at 9.15pm EST on Tuesday and was destined to arrive in the south of France the next day at around 10.30am local time.
However, things did not go to schedule.
Passengers were left furious after they spent 7 hours and 31 minutes in the air only to find themselves back at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The plane arrived at JFK 20 minutes later than it would have touched down in France had it carried on.
Reports suggest the reason for the U-turn was because Delta had more staff in the US to make repairs than in France where it may have had to outsource or fly in technicians.
Bravo TV host Andy Cohen was on the flight and offered his own perspective on Instagram Stories.
“We were an hour outside of Europe, somebody pooped or put something down the toilet that didn’t go, broke the toilets. Guess where we are? Back at JFK,” he wrote.
“We had a round trip to JFK. I had a full night’s sleep, at least.”
In a statement provided to Daily Mail, Delta said: “Delta apologizes to our customers for the inconvenience after Delta flight 412 to Nice, France returned to John F. Kennedy International Airport after the crew received an indication that the lavatories were inoperative. The flight landed without incident and the aircraft proceeded to the gate for maintenance inspection. Customers have been re-accommodated on an alternate flight and were offered a gesture of service recovery for the disruption to their travel.”
