“Enormous” demand is to blame for astronomical ticket prices for next month’s Champions League final in Madrid.
EasyJet have defended the cost of their flights from the UK to Madrid, Spain for the Champions League final on June 1.
EasyJet’s chief executive, Johan Lundgren, said the £1,000 price was due to an “enormous” surge in demand.
Speaking to the BBC, Lunfgren said: “That is actually how the system works. The whole pricing picture is very dynamic.”
Liverpool and Tottenham both reached the final of the Champions League last week in epic style, however, their fans are now complaining that they are being taken advantage of.
On Twitter, the Liverpool mayor, Steve Rotheram, claimed that easyJet were “quite simply profiteering from the passion of football fans.”
“This is nothing new but entirely shameful,” he wrote.

In addition, barely any Madrid hotel rooms are available for less than £1,000 on June 1.
The UEFA Champions League is an annual football competition contested by the best clubs in Europe.
June 1 will feature two English teams for the first time since 2008 when Manchester United defeated Chelsea on penalties in Moscow, Russia.
This year’s final will be played at Atlético Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
