Earlier this month, Emirates completed what is believed to be the longest non-stop scheduled commercial flight.
The Airbus A380, the world’s largest commercial aircraft was used for the historic trip. The plane covered approximately 14,200km (8,824 miles), departing from Dubai, UAE and touching down in Auckland, New Zealand. It had beaten the Qantas service from Dallas, USA to Sydney, Australia.
Emirates had also planned to take the record for flight duration from Qantas (16 hours and 55 minutes), but the plane landed too early.
Although the inaugural, record-breaking flight was flown by an A380, the Emirates Dubai-Auckland route will be operated by a Boeing 777-200.
This new record may not last long however as Emirates are planning on introducing a Dubai to Panama City route soon. Qatar Airways recently announced they plan on launching a Doha, Qatar to Santiago, Chile service.
