New Premium Economy seats bring greater privacy.
Emirates has unveiled a new Premium Economy seat for its Airbus A350 aircraft, introducing an electrically operated privacy feature that the airline says is a world first for this cabin class.
The latest seating product is being installed on newly delivered A350s and forms part of Emirates’ continuing investment in Premium Economy. The airline has increasingly positioned the cabin as an option for passengers seeking additional comfort and space without moving up to Business Class.
One of the most notable additions is an electrically adjustable, full-height privacy divider between passengers. Travellers can raise the screen to create greater separation from the person seated alongside them, providing a more private environment during the journey.
Emirates says this is the first time an electrically powered privacy divider of this type has been introduced in a Premium Economy cabin. The feature could be particularly useful on longer journeys, where passengers may want additional personal space for sleeping, working or relaxing.
There are 28 Premium Economy seats aboard the A350, configured in a 2-3-2 layout. Each seat measures 20 inches across, while the distance between seat rows reaches up to 39 inches.
The redesigned seats also offer a cradle-style reclining position. This allows passengers to adopt a more relaxed position while limiting the impact of the recline on the traveller sitting directly behind them.
Emirates’ growing A350 network is also making its latest Premium Economy product available to more passengers across its global network.
The airline is deploying its A350s on a growing range of routes from Dubai, connecting destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia and the Middle East. Passengers travelling on aircraft fitted with the new cabin can experience Emirates’ latest generation of Premium Economy seating.
Premium Economy is intended to provide a middle ground for travellers who want more than a standard Economy Class experience but do not necessarily want to pay Business Class fares.
Beyond the larger seats and additional privacy, Emirates has developed a broader onboard service specifically for passengers in the cabin. This includes meals influenced by regional cuisines, premium wine options and amenity kits designed to enhance the journey.
Entertainment is provided through Emirates’ ice system, which offers passengers a library of more than 6,500 channels. Available content includes films, television programmes, music, podcasts and games.
By combining extra personal space with improved seating, greater privacy and an enhanced food and beverage service, Emirates is aiming its Premium Economy cabin at both leisure and business passengers.
The introduction of the electrically powered seats on the A350 also forms part of a much broader programme of investment in the Emirates fleet. The Dubai-based carrier continues to add newer aircraft while upgrading cabins and interiors across other parts of its international network.
As Premium Economy becomes increasingly important to long-haul airlines, Emirates’ latest A350 design demonstrates how carriers are adding features traditionally associated with higher cabin classes. Greater privacy, in particular, could become an increasingly important selling point as airlines compete for passengers looking for a more comfortable experience without the cost of Business Class.
