Ex-NFL player arrested after ‘urinating on passenger’ on Delta flight | Secret Flying

Incident forces Delta flight to reroute to Boston.

Gosder Cherilus, a former NFL first-round draft pick, was arrested following an unsettling incident aboard a Delta flight bound for Dublin on Saturday night. According to Massachusetts State Police, the 40-year-old was taken into custody at Logan Airport after the plane was rerouted back to Boston due to his disruptive behaviour.

Cherilus, who was flying to Ireland, reportedly caused a significant disturbance on the flight, culminating in him allegedly urinating on another passenger. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, prompting the flight crew to request assistance from the Massachusetts State Police. At approximately 2 a.m. ET, the Delta flight returned to Logan Airport, where law enforcement officials boarded the plane and attempted to remove Cherilus.

Upon the plane’s arrival at Terminal E, officers from State Police Troop F, accompanied by Customs and Border Protection personnel, identified Cherilus as the individual responsible for the disorderly conduct. Despite verbal commands from the officers, Cherilus became increasingly uncooperative and refused to leave the aircraft. As a result, the officers were compelled to forcibly escort him off the plane and place him under arrest.

Delta Airlines, in an official statement, confirmed the incident, stating, “Delta flight 154 from Boston to Dublin on August 17 returned to Boston Logan due to an unruly customer and was met by law enforcement. Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful behaviour and will cooperate with law enforcement to that end. We apologise to our customers for the delay in their travel.” The airline also made arrangements for the remaining passengers to be rebooked on an alternate flight to Dublin, expected to land the following morning.

Cherilus, who was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2008, enjoyed a nine-year career in the NFL, playing as an offensive tackle for the Lions, Indianapolis Colts, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After retiring from professional football in 2016, he shifted his focus to real estate, founding “Bastion Companies,” and launched the “Gosder Cherilus Foundation,” an organisation dedicated to supporting underprivileged communities in the United States and Haiti.

Following his arrest, Cherilus is scheduled to appear in East Boston District Court on Monday to face charges of disorderly conduct and disturbing a flight crew. The former NFL player’s behaviour has raised concerns about the stress and pressures athletes might face after retiring from professional sports. As the situation unfolds, more details are expected to emerge regarding the legal repercussions Cherilus will face for his actions during the flight.
