A Hawaiian Airlines flight heading to South Korea was forced to return after a passenger on board became violent.

A man has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted a flight attendant on board a Hawaiian Airlines flight to South Korea on Wednesday.

Flight HA459 was four-hours into the flight when a passenger, allegedly a convicted felon, tried to punch a flight attendant.

FBI spokesman Jason White said that alcohol was a factor for the man’s behaviour, as well as why his punch missed.

According to reports, the passenger brought his own whiskey on board the flight.

The captain made the decision to turn the plane around and return to Hawaii.

The aircraft was met by the FBI, Customs and Border Protection agents and deputy sheriffs, upon its return to Honolulu.

The disruptive passenger was transported to the Federal Detention Center.

In a statement, Hawaiian Airlines confirmed the event.

“Hawaiian Airlines flight HA459 departed Honolulu for Incheon International Airport yesterday at 1 p.m. local time carrying 263 passengers and 13 crew. Approximately four hours into the flight, the Captain made the decision to return to Honolulu due to an unruly passenger.

“Passengers briefly deplaned and HA459 departed HNL at 10:35 p.m. and arrived at ICN at 4:28 a.m. local time today. We apologize to our guests for the inconvenience.”
