Travellers heading to a music festival started brawling after they sparked off a booze-fuelled rave mid-air.

Flight FR7242 from Dublin to Malta was delayed on Tuesday after unruly passengers began fighting one another.

According to reports a number of passengers at the back of the plane played loud dance music and refused to take their seats before take-off.

Once the plane was in mid-air, several fights broke out.

It is estimated that as many as 150 of the 180 people on board the plane were travelling to the AMP Lost & Found music festival in Malta.

Kieran Dineen, an RTÉ journalist, was on board and described the scenes as chaotic to RTÉ’s ‘News At One’.

“Several fights broke out there was one man pinned to the ground by two other men to keep him under control, there were punches thrown,” he said.

“One man was held up against the window by his neck for a long duration of the flight.

“There was quite a number who were unruly and it was quite scary for other passengers,” Kieran added.

One man allegedly walked up and down the plane with a big bottle of duty free vodka for people to take sups out of.

In a statement, Ryanair said a number of people were removed from the aircraft by the Maltese police.

“The crew requested police assistance upon arrival after several passengers became disruptive in-flight.

“The aircraft landed normally and police removed and detained these individuals,” the statement said.
