French authorities turn away a private jet of holidaygoers.
London jet-setters who defied coronavirus lockdown restrictions to take a private plane to the Cote d’Azur were sent back home by French police.
The party of ten, which consisted of three businessmen, three young women and four staff, flew into Marseille airport where 3 helicopters were waiting to take them to a luxury villa in Cannes.
Upon arriving in Marseille, French customs and police officers barred them from stepping off the jet and ordered them to return to the UK.
“They were coming for a holiday in Cannes and three helicopters were waiting on the tarmac,” a border police representative told Agence France-Presse.
“We notified them they were not allowed to enter the national territory and they left four hours later.”
The group were made up of several nationalities, including Croatian, German, French, Romanian and Ukrainian citizens.
Police described the young women, aged in their 20s, as escorts.
According to reports, the three helicopter pilots were fined on the spot by police for breaking the lockdown rules imposed by the French government.
