Gatwick Airport flights depart without luggage due to broken conveyor belts | Secret Flying

Passengers have been flying from Gatwick Airport without their luggage after the baggage system failed.

Passengers flying from Gatwick Airport were faced with chaos this morning as baggage systems went down. Many flights departed without bags which easyJet blamed on a broken conveyor belt.

To make matters worse, this bank holiday weekend is one of the busiest for air travel in the UK.

Luggage had to manually be tagged resulting in a huge backlog. Images show a vast number of bags sitting in the terminal.

Sig Watkins, a passenger with easyJet said: “The flight was not delayed, but the baggage belts were not working so easyJet staff instructed us to leave our luggage in a pile promising it would be put on the flight. When I boarded the plane I asked staff if the bags were being loaded and they said ‘yes.’

“We then landed and were informed that no bags were loaded in the end,” she said.

The Gatwick Airport Twitter account announced that conveyor belts had been fixed at 10.51am BST. However, queues remain.
