Girl scalded by hot chocolate on Ryanair flight settles claim for €150,000 | Secret Flying

A young girl who suffered second degree burns when a cup of hot chocolate tipped onto her lap on a Ryanair flight has settled her High Court action for €150,000.

An eight-year-old girl who suffered second-degree scald burns when a cup of hot chocolate spilled onto her lap while on a Ryanair flight has settled her High Court action for €150,000.

Sriya Venkata Neti, who is now 11 years old and lives in Freemont, California, was travelling on a Ryanair flight from Rome to Krakow, Poland with her parents.

Sriya took a sip of the hot chocolate the flight attendant handed her but the paper cup fell on top of her when she recoiled from the hot liquid.

A medical report provided in the court said the hot liquid pooled on the seat causing extreme burning pain.

The girl’s mother said her daughter’s skin was gone and blisters were forming in other areas.

Upon arriving in Krakow, Sriya was airlifted to hospital and was then transferred to Toronto, Canada where she was treated for her burns.

The family argued that cabin crew failed to warn the little girl of the danger from the temperature at the which the hot chocolate was served.

It was also alleged that the airline’s failure to provide any adequate means of cooling the burns worsened the injuries considerably.

Ryanair denied all the claims.
