Tourist left clinging to 100m-high Chinese bridge.

A tourist was left stranded on a glass-bottomed suspension bridge in north-eastern China after the transparent panels around him fell out.

The man was on the 100-metre-high bridge at Piyan Mountain in the city of Longjing when gusts of wind reaching up to 150kmh blew out several glass panels.

Under the joint rescue efforts of police, firefighters, and forestry the tourist successfully crawled back to safety.

“Our staff rushed to the scene with emergency equipment and successfully transferred the trapped person to safety. The incident caused no casualties,” a statement posted to Longjing City’s official Weibo social media account said.

“The trapped person was taken to hospital for observation. He was discharged as his mental and physical condition were stable.”

According to reports, the unnamed man is now receiving psychological counselling.

Although no casualties were reported, the incident has drawn many discussions on the Twitter-like Sina Weibo platform.

“This is exactly why I dare not step on a bridge like that,” wrote one user.

“Chinese construction at its finest,” another sarcastically posted.
