Cameras have been discovered embedded at the bottom of American Airlines entertainment screens.

American Airlines is the latest carrier to come under fire for installing cameras into its IFE screens.

BuzzFeed News reported that a passenger had noticed the camera on his seat-back screen during a flight to Tokyo.

The airline confirmed to CNET that there are cameras in some of its in-flight entertainment screens.

Last week, Singapore Airlines also confirmed in a Tweet that there are cameras beneath seat back screens.

The South-East Asian airline insisted they have been disabled with no plans to use them.

Both airlines say the cameras were included with off-the-shelf parts from manufacturers and have not been activated.

“Cameras are a standard feature on many in-flight entertainment systems used by multiple airlines,” an American Airlines representative said.

“Manufacturers of those systems have included cameras for possible future uses such as seat-to-seat video conferencing. While these cameras are present on some American Airlines in-flight entertainment systems as delivered from the manufacturer, they have never been activated and American is not considering using them.”
