Bangladeshi commandos stormed a plane and shot dead the suspected hijacker in Chittagong.

A man has been killed after attempting to hijack a Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane at Chittagong’s Shah Amanat International Airport.

Flight BG147 was scheduled to fly from Dhaka to Dubai via Chittagong.

However, a crew member reported “suspicious behaviour” from a passenger forcing an emergency landing.

In regards to the weapon the suspect used, there appears to be conflicting reports from local media.

Some news agencies have said the hijacker was carrying a fake gun, whilst others have reported that commandos fired at the suspect after he shot at them.

The civil aviation chief has said, “an inquiry is underway,” as to how the passenger managed to smuggle a [fake] gun through security and onto the Boeing 737-800 plane.

“I’ll hijack this plane… If you don’t open the cockpit, I will blow up the plane,” the hijacker was quoted as saying by a crew member.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, asked to speak to his wife and to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina before he died en route to the hospital.
